Newtown, El Dorado County Hawks left fielder John Shank put on a dazzling display of power at Keo Stadium against the Keo Thunderbolts. In the 11-4 Hawks victory, Shank penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.

"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Keo manager said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."

Along with his three home runs, the 20-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Shank said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."

John Shank hit a solo-shot off Blair Smith in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Blair Smith in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, struck out in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Domingo Lopez in the 8th.

This season, Shank is batting .306 with 12 home runs.
