The Bell Center second baseman massacred Gold Miners pitching, cracking out three home runs and going 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. But this sensational performance didn't really matter. Rutledge won the ballgame, 17-7, despite the three homers.
"I wish a big 'W' had come with this," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but the bottom line is whether you win or lose."
Nonetheless, Guerrero will now have a place in the league record book.
"I guess when you're hot, you're hot," he said. "I'm not going up there trying to hit home runs. I put the good part of the bat on it and luckily three of them went out today."
Alex Guerrero hit a solo-shot off Antonio Santos in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Antonio Santos in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Alain Philippot in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
