| Babin Hurls Shutout | The Seattle Pilots had no answer for Phoenix Firebirds pitcher Gilbert Babin. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Seattle managed only 1 hit off Babin, who had 7 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Babin got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Firebirds fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This season, Babin has fanned 86 in 83.2 innings and collected a 7-4 record with a 3.98 ERA. | | | | |
