| Schneider Sets Down 27 in a Row | Sometimes a pitcher is lucky and sometimes he is good. Russell Schneider is confident which category he belongs in.
The controversial Mexico City Marauders left-hander pitched his way into league history with a perfect game against the San Francisco Pioneers at Marauders Field.
"Baseball is a team sport and you usually can't boil it down to one guy," Schneider proclaimed in the postgame press conference. "Today is a special case, though. I felt incredible the second I got on that mound, and the results speak for themselves."
The perfect game led the Marauders to the 3-0 win over the Pioneers. Schneider retired all 27 hitters he faced and fanned 10.
Opposing manager David Fields was less inclined to give Schneider total credit, calling the pitcher "excellent" but noting that the Pioneers had a few hard hits that found their way into Mexico City gloves.
"Under different conditions, against different defenders, those might have been hits," he said. "But yeah, Schneider was good. Obnoxious, but good."
This year, Schneider has made 8 starts, thrown 55.2 innings, fanned 53 batters and walked 9. His won-lost record is 4-2 with a 2.75 ERA. | | | | |
