Pioneers Suffer 7-2 Road Loss
The Phoenix Firebirds beat the San Francisco Pioneers, 7-2, at Firebirds Ballpark. Phoenix center fielder Dwayne Bland, who is tied for 3rd in the UL in doubles with 24, collected 1 single and 2 doubles with 1 run batted in. Picking up the win was Gilbert Babin. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 4 and walked 5. Jose Hernandez notched his 1st save of the season.

Aaron Devine had a big 3-run home run for the Firebirds in the bottom of the third inning. With Phoenix trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Mike Ludwigs and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 7th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Firebirds ahead, 4-2.

Devine called the win "a team effort."

With the win over San Francisco, the Firebirds improved to 37-47.
