| Miami Edges Sunrays, 5-4, Charron Clutch | Miami beat Tampa Bay at Honolulu Stadium, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to designated hitter Jim Charron. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Juan Magana, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-3. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 9 and walking 3. The Makos, at 14-12, lead by one game in their division.
The Makos got a big hit from right fielder Willie de la Rosa. Facing Tampa Bay pitcher Malcolm Fields in the bottom of the sixth, de la Rosa pounded a solo home run to left-center. His 5th home run of the season put the Makos ahead, 5-0.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Tampa Bay manager David Fields said, following the tough loss. | | | | |
