| Sunrays Rally Late to Nip Makos | The Tampa Bay Sunrays turned back the Miami Makos, 7-6, at Honolulu Stadium. Jose Gallegos, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Jerry Gripper in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Bill Brown took the loss. John Winsor wrapped it up, recording his 9th save.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Gallegos delivered big-time for Tampa Bay, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Bill Brown. The game-changing hit put the Sunrays on top, 7-6.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Gallegos told a Tampa Bay Herald reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
With the win, the Sunrays have a record of 12-15. | | | | |
