| Lutz, Makos Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead | The Honolulu Makos started the Wildcard in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Dallas Jets in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Honolulu took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter J.P. Lutz. The right-hander threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Makos a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-3 series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Honolulu catcher Mario Moreno, facing Andy Urso, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Makos the 2-1 win.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Honolulu manager David Fields said.
The next game is set to be played for Monday, August 2nd , 2038 at Jets Field in Dallas.
