| Empire Score Late, Topple Vipers, 4-1 | Detroit got a terrific performance from pitcher Andrew Hood, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Empire. New York won the Vipers Park contest, 4-1. Hood threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The Empire, at 12-17, inhabit last place in the Independent Central.
Enrique Paucar delivered a big hit for New York. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empire ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
New York manager David Fields attributed the win to "a little bit of this and a little bit of that."
