| Almost There: San Francisco On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 3-1 Win | Already in trouble in the World Series, the New York Empire knew they needed a strong outing from their starter and good production on offense. They got one of the two.
The Empire failed to put much together on offense and wasted an impressive 8-inning effort from right-handed starter Travis Segura, falling, 3-1, to the San Francisco Pioneers at Empire Ballpark. The loss put the Empire in an even deeper hole -- they now trail San Francisco 3-1.
San Francisco used a well-timed hit by Eddie Hernandez to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Pioneers ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"Makes our job easier," said Hernandez, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
Game 5 is scheduled for Monday at Pioneers Park in San Francisco. | | | | |
