The New York Empire knocked off the Tampa Bay Sunrays, 4-2, in Independent action at Empire Ballpark. New York pitcher and Webster Groves, Missouri, native Doug Ballentine had an outstanding performance. Jose Carrera nailed down his 1st save. The victory makes New York 2-0.

Tim Murray, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2041 draft, aided the New York cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 4.
