| Empire Win at Home, 2-1 | The New York Empire defeated the Tampa Bay Sunrays, 2-1, in Independent action at Empire Ballpark. New York pitcher Bobby Frausto had a standout performance. Frausto got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run. New York goes to 3-0 with the win.
Willie Reyes had a big run-scoring double for the Empire in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from former first round draft pick Matt Jennings and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empire ahead, 2-0.
"Bobby giving us the start that he did was huge," said New York manager David Fields.
