| Empire Win at Detroit, 3-1 | Starting Pitcher Josue Ortiz was lights out, as the New York Empire beat the Detroit Vipers, 3-1. Manny Grijalva earned the save for New York, his 11th of the year. The win makes New York 23-13.
New York used a well-timed hit by Dave Nelson to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Empire ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Ortiz.
