| Hawks Capture Close Win | Ryan Smith, the 17th overall pick in the 2032 draft, was locked in. The right-hander led the Chicago Hawks to a 4-3 win against the Montreal Mammoths at Mammoths Field. Chicago reliever Sam Woods picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Alonso Donatoni was tagged with the loss. At 3-1, the Hawks have played well so far.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the eighth, with the game tied, Werner Aastrom was at the plate when Chicago scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Hawks to go in front, 4-3.
"Ryan doing his thing just hyped us all up," said Chicago manager David Fields.
