| Hernandez 3-for-4 as Empire Squeeze Past Miami | The New York Empire stopped the Miami Makos, 6-5, behind an impressive performance from Jorge Hernandez. The 12-time All-Star made life miserable for Miami pitching. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mike Clark picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 9. On the season, he is now 4-3. John Pilkington earned save number 5 this season.
Hernandez had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-0 cutter from Carlos Sanchez, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Empire a 6-5 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Hernandez.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Hernandez.
The Empire now have a record of 16-25 with the win over Miami. | | | | |
