| Empire Turn Back Tampa Bay, 5-4 | The New York Empire topped the Tampa Bay Sunrays, 5-4, at Empire Ballpark. New York left fielder Melvin Ramos was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. New York pitcher Juan Albidrez got the win, upping his record to 3-4. Ernesto Rodriguez got the loss. New York is now 30-18, 2 games up in the Independent Central.
Ramos had a game-changing double in the bottom of the seventh. On a first pitch fastball from Ernesto Rodriguez, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Empire a 5-4 lead. It was the 11th double of the year for Ramos.
"Winning never gets dull," said Ramos.
