| Chicago Gets 5-4 Win | The Chicago Hawks picked up a win at Honolulu Stadium, knocking off the Miami Makos, 5-4. Starting pitcher Ryan Smith was a big reason why. Sam Woods, 2-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Chicago leads the Independent North Division by 6½ games.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Werner Aastrom to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hawks on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Smith told the Chicago Herald.
