| Kings Nip Makos, 3-2 | The Boston Kings knocked off the Miami Makos, 3-2, in Independent action at Condors Park. Boston pitcher and Allende, Mexico, native Tony Martinez had an outstanding performance. Carlos Ayala got credit for the save for Boston. It was his 14th of the year. The second-place Makos dropped to 32-29.
John Leblanc had a big 2-run triple for the Kings in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Juan Magana, who finished 2nd in the IL in ERA with 1.77 in 2043, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Kings ahead, 3-0.
"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," Leblanc told the Boston Times. | | | | |
