Tampa Bay Wins, Gonzales hits 2 home runs
The Tampa Bay Sunrays beat the Detroit Vipers by a score of 11-7. Tampa Bay designated hitter Carlos Gonzales deserved the lion's share of the credit. Gonzales went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Sunrays. Picking up his 14th save was 23-year old right-handed pitcher John Winsor. Their 23-40 record puts the Sunrays last in the Independent South.

Gonzales contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Tampa Bay in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Gonzales took a fastball from Kyle White and stroked the home run to left-center. His 21st home run of the season allowed the Sunrays to leap in front, 5-2.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager David Fields.
