| New York Dismisses Miami, 5-1 | Though the conditions were not ideal, the New York Empire and Miami Makos came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The New York Empire picked up a win at Honolulu Stadium, taking down the Miami Makos, 5-1. Starting pitcher Manny Lopez was a big reason why. Lopez, now 7-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
New York used the timely hitting of Jorge Romero to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empire on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"I like our mindset right now," said New York manager David Fields.
New York improves to 41-23 with the win. They lead their division by 7 games.
