The New York Empire locked up a win at Sunrays Field, knocking off the Tampa Bay Sunrays, 4-3. On the mound for New York was left-hander Sandy Elias. He played a major role in the triumph. Manny Grijalva closed out the game, earning his 25th save.
New York used the timely hitting of Brandon Buchanan to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empire on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just kind of blacked out and executed my pitches," said Elias.
