| Makos Prevail, 3-1, Over Tampa Bay | In a low-scoring affair between the Miami Makos and the Tampa Bay Sunrays, pitcher Roy Birley was the difference between victory and defeat. The Miami right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Makos win. Birley yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 3-0. With the win, Miami upped its record to 51-42.
The Sunrays had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Makos going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Dane Burdier came to the plate. Burdier hit a 2-run double on a first pitch curveball from Tampa Bay hurler Lee O'Meara. It was Burdier's 8th double of the year.
Burdier told a Miami Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
