The Detroit Vipers and Chicago Hawks provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Chicago Hawks trumped the Detroit Vipers, 5-4, at Hawks Park. Chicago first baseman Mark Martin was terrific. He went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. Chicago pitcher Mario Villalpando earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Hector Trujillo suffered the loss. DeAndre Woods finished to wrap up his 1st save.

The Hawks got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Willie Palacios. For the game, Palacios went 1 for 1 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Chicago a 5-4 lead.

Chicago manager David Fields commended his team for "bagging a nice win."

The win puts Chicago at 6-5.
