| Vipers Beat New York, 3-2 | The rain came, as predicted, but the Detroit Vipers and New York Empire were able to complete their ballgame.
The Detroit Vipers took New York pitcher Sandy Elias's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Vipers Park. The final score had Detroit getting past the Empire, 3-2. Elias went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 4. Detroit reliever Gabe Stanger got the win, raising his record to 5-5. Ricky Rael was tagged with the loss.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Detroit third baseman Ivan Galiano, facing Ricky Rael, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Vipers the 3-2 win.
Galiano called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
With the win, the Vipers have a record of 53-48. | | | | |
