The Miami Makos cut down the Tampa Bay Sunrays by the score of 5-3, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Jose Puente. Puente was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Makos. The Independent South-leading Makos are 72-33.

Puente had a game-changing double in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-1 slider from George Hylton, he banged a run-scoring double to left, giving the Makos a 4-3 lead. It was the 29th double of the year for Puente.
