The Chicago Hawks weathered an outstanding game by Boston center fielder Neal Johnson to topple the Kings, 7-5. Johnson went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2. Chicago has a record of 38-67, placing them last in the Independent North Division.

Grant Thompson played the role of hero for Chicago. In the bottom of the ninth, he launched a 2-run home run off Felipe Almonte to win the game. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was the decisive blow.

"Enjoyed this one," Thompson told the Chicago Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
