| Empire Flatten Hawks, 10-4 | The New York Empire picked up a win at Empire Ballpark, topping the Chicago Hawks, 10-4. On the mound for New York was left-hander Sandy Elias. He played a principal role in the triumph. New York is now 63-43, 7½ games up in the Independent Central.
Julio Apodaca had a big grand slam home run for the Empire in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 4-2 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from Chris Carrell, who led the IL in wins with 15 in 2041, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Empire on top, 8-2.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Chicago manager David Fields. | | | | |
