| Hawks Deal Empire 6-5 Defeat | The Chicago Hawks besoiled an otherwise fine performance by New York first baseman Brandon Buchanan by beating the Empire, 6-5, at Empire Ballpark. Buchanan was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. DeAndre Woods, 3-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. Chicago is now 39-69.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Matt Conrad to get the win. The first baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hawks ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"I felt good up there," said Conrad. "I saw the ball well."
