| With Late Score, Hitters Beat Firebirds | Both teams had their chances, but the Hollywood Hitters eventually prevailed.
Hollywood registered a win at Hitters Park by beating the Phoenix Firebirds, 3-2. Pitcher Chris Ward was one reason why the Hitters triumphed. Hollywood reliever Mike Benson picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jose Hernandez suffered the loss.
The game reached a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With Hollywood trailing 2-1, Carlos Cruz delivered the decisive blow, stroking a cutter from Jose Hernandez for a 2-run home run. Ballgame.
"I'm glad I got one I could handle. Glad I got the barrel on it," said Cruz.
The loss makes Phoenix 1-7.
