Orange center fielder Chris Whatley put his stamp on his team's 4-3 win over the New York Empire. Whatley was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Orlando in the contest. Russ Phillipi picked up the win in relief for Orlando, while Dave Alatorre took the loss.
Orlando grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Whatley hit a 2-run double off Dave Alatorre. His 5th double of the season put the Orange out in front, 2-0.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said New York manager David Fields. "But we decided not to take it."
