The Phoenix Firebirds rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Gus Marquez to a win, beating the Denver Queens, 5-2, at Queens Field. Phoenix has won 6 straight games.

Rich Unruh had a big 2-run home run for the Firebirds in the top of the third inning. With Phoenix leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Eric Keadle and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Firebirds ahead, 3-0.

"Been a rough stretch for us," said Denver manager David Fields.
