Pioneers Lose to Pilots, 9-4
The Seattle Pilots downed the San Francisco Pioneers, 9-4. The hitting star was third baseman Francisco Macias. Macias was 3-5 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Pilots. Luis Barrios recorded the save for Seattle, his 1st of the season. The third-place Pilots improved to 17-22.

Victor Martinez had a big 3-run home run for the Pilots in the bottom of the first inning. With Seattle leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Travis Welker, who finished 3rd in the UL in innings pitched with 154.0 in 2040, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Pilots on top, 5-0.

"I thought we competed really well," said Pilots manager David Fields. "I thought the energy was really good."
