Starting pitcher Rodolfo Bustamante was a major factor in the 7-2 Seattle Pilots triumph over the Phoenix Firebirds. The winner was Marcus Allen in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jim Burrows took the loss. The second-place Pilots go to 21-21.

Seattle took a 5-2 lead on Darius Trotter's 10th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Trotter hit in the top of the seventh, left Phoenix pitcher Ed Stewart visibly frustrated.

"Rodolfo really held it together well," said Seattle manager David Fields.
