| Tampa Bay Grabs DS Opener, 4-1 | The Tampa Bay Sunrays faced a tough opponent in Toronto Robbers pitcher Chris Carrell, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Divisional, which they now lead 1-0. The Sunrays won, 4-1, at Mounties Park, despite the Robbers getting a strong start from left-hander Carrell, who went 6 innings and allowed 1 run.
Tampa Bay won the game in part because of Matt McFarlane. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sunrays ahead, 2-1. For the game, McFarlane had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Tampa Bay manager David Fields said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mounties Park in Toronto.
