| Almost There: Tampa Bay On Cusp of CS Triumph After 2-1 Win | The Tampa Bay Sunrays moved to within one game of the World Series, downing the visiting New York Empire at Sunrays Field by a score of 2-1. Sunrays right-hander Nick Friess had a strong outing in which he threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Sunrays a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Conference Championship.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Sunrays had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when third baseman Gilberto Leyva hit a solo home run. The home run came off Danny Gephart and made the score 2-1, Sunrays. Leyva went 1 for 3 with a home run.
"We squandered some opportunities," said New York manager David Fields.
The next game is set to be played for Sunday, August 21st , 2039 at Empire Ballpark in New York.
