| Firebirds Roll Over Pioneers, 10-4 | Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Phoenix Firebirds and San Francisco Pioneers.
The 10-4 Phoenix win over San Francisco was due in large part to Rich Unruh. The Firebirds second baseman went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Bob Becerra was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Phoenix used the bat of Danny Monter to get the win. The catcher spanked a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Firebirds ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it altered the outcome.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Unruh.
The third-place Firebirds now have a win-loss record of 20-32. | | | | |
