The performance of Roberto Rodriguez proved critical in helping Phoenix beat Mexico City, 8-7. The Firebirds left fielder was 3 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 2 runs. Phoenix reliever Alberto Garcia got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Nick Weaver was tagged with the loss. The Marauders , now 32-22, have lost 4 in a row.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Danny Monter in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a solo home run off 22-year old left-handed pitcher Nick Weaver to win it for Phoenix and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Monter.
