| Pioneers Need Extra Frames to Get Past Pilots | The Seattle Pilots got a superb performance from pitcher Dean Holman, but the San Francisco Pioneers still won the game, 6-3. Holman threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The second-place Pioneers are now 27-28, the Pilots 21-34.
San Francisco took advantage of an error in the top of the tenth inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Edgardo Valverde hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Pioneers in front, 4-3.
"Nice win for us," said Valverde. "Now we'll go after the next one."
