| Mercado Leads Pilots to 5-4 Win Over Queens | The Seattle Pilots turned back the Denver Queens, 5-4, at Queens Field. Danny Mercado, in particular, had a fine performance. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Rodolfo Bustamante picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-4 on the season. He struck out 7 and walked 0 in 6 innings, while yielding 3 runs. The Pilots go to 24-35 with the win.
Mercado had a timely hit for Seattle in the top of the seventh. With Seattle trailing 3-2, he turned a first pitch fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season, making it 4-3, Seattle.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Denver manager David Fields.
