| Martinez Raps Denver for 5 Hits Monday, July 3rd , 2045 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Victor Martinez, it came around today.
The 26-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Queens Field to pace the 7-6 Seattle Pilots victory over the Denver Queens.
Denver skipper David Fields told reporters in the press room that "Martinez deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Martinez hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Victor Martinez doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Josh Neal in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
In his season totals, Martinez has 10 home runs, .276 BA, .297 OBP, 36 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 80 games.
