| Big Day for Hernandez: Swats 5 Hits Wednesday, July 26th , 2045 A jubilant Eddie Hernandez joined the postgame press conference at Pilots Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Seattle Pilots pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the San Francisco Pioneers left fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 11-9 Pioneers win.
"He made it look easy," said David Fields, manager of the Pilots. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Eddie Hernandez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run double in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th and hit a two-run single in the 11th.
In 97 games this season, Hernandez is batting .233 with 88 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 43 runs and driven in 37.
