The 35-year-old Hawks starter hoisted up the Independent Pitcher of the Year Award earlier today, silencing critics who thought it was time for the "old man" to retire.
Carrell crafted an ERA of 1.87 as he won 15 games, dropped 3, fanned 170 and gave up 22 walks in 163.2 innings of work.
He received 20 first place votes out of a possible 24. Vic Marinez of the Miami Makos finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Joe Jones of the Philadelphia Fury finished third.
