| Monster 3-HR Day for Herrera Saturday, April 2nd , 2044 Naucalpan HS Bandits third baseman Pedro Herrera put on a dazzling display of power at Vikings Park against the Juarez HS Vikings. In the 17-15 Bandits victory, Herrera penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Juarez HS manager said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 14-year-old had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Herrera said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Pedro Herrera walked in the 2nd, hit a sac fly in the 3rd, walked in a run in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Vicente Elizalde in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Danny Gamez in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Edward Guerra in the 9th.
Looking at his present stats, Herrera has compiled a .352 batting average in 23 games with a .441 on-base percentage, while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 35 runs. | | |
