| Gutierrez Hits 3 Homers Against Memphis HS Friday, April 4th , 2042 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Hector Gutierrez swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at San Jose HS Stadium, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Memphis HS Black Dogs were better.
The San Jose HS Maples couldn't capitalize on the big game from Gutierrez and dropped the contest, 19-17.
The mood in the Maples clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Black Dogs to spoil the day for Gutierrez.
"Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," San Jose HS manager said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level."
In addition to the homers, Gutierrez collected 8 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the San Jose HS first baseman told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3."
Hector Gutierrez grounded out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bobby Burnette in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Rob Figueroa in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Rob Figueroa in the 4th, walked in a run in the 5th, walked in the 8th, walked in the 9th and struck out in the 11th.
Currently Gutierrez has 9 home runs and a .364 batting average. | | |
