| Hamilton Big Deal in Vancouver: Hits for Cycle Thursday, April 20th , 2045 Bill Hamilton did everything he could for the Vancouver Orcas -- literally.
The 23-year-old first baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Orcas, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Newark Silverbacks, 10-9, at Flyers Grounds.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Hamilton reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Hamilton banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Bill Hamilton singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Dan Savage in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
This year, Hamilton is hitting .364, produced 9 RBIs and 2 home runs, scored 6 times and gotten on base at a .475 rate. | | |
