| 5-2 Loss Deepens Leon Funk | The Phoenix Firebirds knocked off the Leon Toltecs, 5-2, in United action at Firebirds Ballpark. Phoenix pitcher and Quinte West, Canada, native Johnny Beairsto had an outstanding performance. Beairsto, now 14-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Leon is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 8 in a row.
Phoenix got a big at-bat from Iuka, Mississippi native Rich Unruh, who in the bottom of the second hit a 2-run double. It was his 19th double of the season and put the Firebirds ahead, 3-0.
Phoenix manager David Fields commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
