The New York Empire topped the Montreal Mammoths, 9-4, in Independent action at Mammoths Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Manny Lopez. Lopez got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 3 runs. New York raised its record to 19-10 with the win.

New York took advantage of an error in the top of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 3-3, when Melvin Ramos hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Empire in front, 5-3.

"Manny gave us a really strong effort," said New York manager David Fields.
