| Hawks Lose at Home, 5-4 | Though the conditions were not ideal, the Montreal Mammoths and Chicago Hawks came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Montreal Mammoths defeated the Chicago Hawks, 5-4, in Independent action at Hawks Park. Montreal pitcher Val Kerr had a standout performance. The win gives Montreal a season record of 45-38.
David Smallman had a big 2-run triple for the Mammoths in the top of the sixth inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Stephen Wilkins, who finished 3rd in the IL in innings pitched with 165.2 in 2043, and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mammoths ahead, 3-0.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Montreal manager David Fields. | | | | |
